WHAT! Anurag Kashyap Makes SHOCKING Revelation About Christopher Nolan! Says Customs Held His Equipment During Tenet Shoot
Anurag Kashyap, an influential figure in Indian cinema, has frequently voiced concerns about the lack of support for independent films in the country. In his recent media interactions, he has highlighted how indie filmmakers, like Payal Kapadia, struggle to receive even basic financial incentives such as rebates, despite achieving international recognition and making India proud at prestigious events like Cannes 2024.

During an interview with Fever FM, Kashyap shared a particularly startling revelation about the treatment of acclaimed director Christopher Nolan by Indian authorities while filming "Tenet" in Mumbai. He pointed out the broader issue of inadequate support systems for filmmakers in India. Kashyap stated, “There was a film body that supported filmmakers like Shyam Benegal and Govind Nihalani. However, nowadays, even the subsidies that certain states offer to attract filmmakers can take up to eight years to be disbursed. Much of it is just a façade. You should talk to Christopher Nolan’s team about the challenges they faced while shooting 'Tenet' in India. You’ll be shocked to learn how he was treated—his equipment was held up by customs. There are countless such stories. We need to stop deceiving ourselves into believing there is a system that empowers cinema.”

Kashyap's career began as a screenwriter, contributing to notable films like "Satya" and "Kaun." He also wrote the dialogues for E Niwas's "Shool," which starred Manoj Bajpayee and Raveena Tandon. His directorial debut, "Paanch," never saw a release, and his second film, "Black Friday," took over five years to release due to its sensitive subject matter about the 1993 Mumbai blasts. Despite these early setbacks, Kashyap gained significant recognition with films like "Dev D" and "Gulaal." His works, "Gangs of Wasseypur - 1 and 2" and "Mukkabaaz," are considered among his best.

Kashyap also ventured into the digital space with the acclaimed web series "Sacred Games - Season 1 and 2," based on Vikram Chandra's novel of the same name. The series further solidified his reputation as a versatile filmmaker. His upcoming projects include a role in the crime series "Bad Cop," featuring Gulshan Deviah, and portraying a negative character in Vijay Sethupathi's "Maharaja." Additionally, his directorial venture "Kennedy," which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in 2023, continues to showcase his commitment to impactful cinema despite the systemic challenges that indie filmmakers face in India.
